Some people just don’t like the genuine thing. We have substitutes for everything from sugar to Christ himself and people often choose the substitute over the real thing — to save money, to save time and to save face, or so they think.
Have you substituted anything for Jesus Christ?
Let’s see what’s available.

The list can go on and on, of course, but I’ve highlighted four of the biggest needs in people’s lives from a spiritual point of view. The trouble is, more people go for the substitutes than for the genuine article.
Take a look at your own life and see if you’ve made any substitutions. I have someone staying with me that frequents AA meetings almost daily. He hasn’t had a drink in 19 years, and he hasn’t learned anything about the Bible or Jesus Christ but he’s regularly at those AA meetings without fail. I honor is commitment and progress in overcoming alcohol, but that won’t save him. I admire is desire to fellowship with others, but that won’t bring him into the family of God. I think AA has it’s place, but not as a substitute for true spirituality through Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten son.
Man needs to realize that only the genuine Word of God will provide for all of mankind’s needs. God is the author of the Bible and he reveals himself through it. The entire story of the Bible from Genesis 3:15 through the end of the book of Revelation is that since man fell from God’s presence, God sent forth a redeemer. That redeemer is Jesus who died on the cross, was buried for 3 days and 3 nights and was then raised from the dead. Believing in him is your acceptance of God’s generous offer to redeem you and give you eternal life in the family of God on the new earth that’s soon coming.
Have you confessed Jesus is Lord? Do you believe God raised him from the dead? Let’s see what the Bible says if you have:
Romans 10:9, 10 If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead you shall be saved. For with the heart man believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Accept the sacrifice of God’s son for your sins and be joined to God for eternal life. God’s good for his promise — he will never renege on it or let you down. He loves you so much he gave his only begotten son; all you have to do is believe and be saved. Go for it. It’s free of charge to you. And it’s no substitute. Get the genuine — go with Christ!
