How ‘stoked’ are you about Christ’s soon return? I’m absolutely electrified. Every cell of my body is waiting in anticipation because I know nothing can stop it — Jesus who was humiliated and crucified around 2000 years ago was raised from the dead by God and will return soon as King of Kings and Lord of Lords to put down all rule and authority and power and finally subject everyone and everything to God.
Romans 8:19 For the earnest expectation of the creation waits for the manifestation of the sons of God.
“Earnest expectation’ is the way God puts the anticipation of ‘the restitution of all things’ in his word.
Acts 3:21 [Jesus] Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.
Most of the world is ignorant of the fact that Christ will return to establish “the Kingdom of God’ from Jerusalem. The nations of the earth will gather together against Christ at his return to try to prevent it, but their efforts will be totally ineffective and useless. They have no clue as to the immensity of the power our Lord Jesus wields and nothing man can do can match that awesome glory. No nuclear bomb can stop him and not even 6 billion people gathered against him will prevail.
All Persecution Will Be Retributed
Our Christian brothers and sisters are being driven from homelands and killed day in and day out in many nations of this world. To you who are suffering, I commend you to the Word of God’s Grace in I and II Thessalonians. The brunt of these epistles is the return of our Lord Jesus Christ and his subjugation of everyone on earth. The Thessalonians themselves were experiencing acute persecution and suffering in the name of Jesus and God gave them the Hope of His Son’s return to embolden them to stand through their trials and tribulations.
I Thessalonians 2:13-16 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.
For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judaea are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they haveof the Jews:
Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they please not God, and are contrary to all men:
Forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, to fill up their sins alway: for the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost.
These Christians in Thessalonica were true ‘believers.’ That is, they believed the Word of God as it was presented to them by the representatives, the apostles, of Christ. They were suffering the same things Jesus suffered and God, through Paul, commended them for their perseverance in the midst of their affliction. And what did Paul teach them about to bolster their stand? The return of Christ of course.
II Thessalonians 1:7,8 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
God’s promise was not only that Jesus would return to save them, but that he would avenge them for all the trouble they were facing from those who opposed God’s Word.
God does not change. His promise of Christ’s return and vengeance upon His, also ‘our’ enemies is still valid and shall still be fulfilled. How much more do we need these words today as the rouge Islamic State persecutes Christians, beheads them and burns them at the stake. All these things will be avenged in due time by our God and all shall be set right.
Christ’s return will occur at the conclusion of the present age after full number of Gentiles comes in (Romans 11:25). Absolutely nothing and nobody is going to stop it. Though they amass the skies with terrible war planes and the earth with masses of troops, all these will fall without a defense when our Lord Jesus returns from heaven with his mighty host.
Rest in sweet expectation of Christ’s return. God said it will happen and nothing is going to stop it. There are at least two times as many verses about the second coming of Christ as there are about his first coming. Nothing was able to prevent his first coming and nothing shall prevent his second. Which side are you on?
